Summer maintenance shutdowns and annual maintenance projects succeed best when preparations are made in good time. After a long winter, with summer knocking on the door, it is a good moment to stop and check whether the tools, lifting equipment and production support equipment are really ready for the coming months. In many companies, summer brings periods when part of the staff is on holiday and production has natural quieter moments – and that is often exactly when servicing machines and equipment is most efficient.
Before that, however, you need to make sure that the maintenance tools are in good condition. Cranes, chain hoists and other lifting aids are indispensable helpers in maintenance and installation work: more lifting power, less manual work, fewer extra helping hands and, above all, safer and smoother work. But like all important tools, lifting equipment also needs regular servicing and inspections to work when it is needed most.
It is best to carry out servicing and inspections before factory maintenance, production shutdowns and maintenance projects get going at full speed. A well-timed annual inspection and preventive maintenance ensure that the equipment is in working order when schedules are at their tightest and there is no room for extra interruptions.
When planning maintenance for the summer season, pay particular attention to the condition of the wearing parts of lifting equipment. Chains, wire ropes, hooks, brakes, limit switches and electrical control systems are subjected to heavy stress during the year, and possible wear is not always visible on the outside. A professionally performed inspection helps detect even small deviations before they develop into faults that stop production or into safety risks.
Preventive maintenance is not just upkeep – it is also about securing production. When cranes and lifting aids are inspected, serviced and documented as being in working order, the summer’s installation, repair and maintenance work can be carried out as planned without unnecessary surprises. At the same time, you avoid urgent repairs, extra downtime and situations where a critical device is not available just when it is needed most.
Summer comes every year, but a successful maintenance season does not happen by chance. When inspections, servicing and any repairs are done in good time, summer projects can be started safely, efficiently and with confidence. The lifting equipment that supports production deserves the same attention as all other critical tools – often even more.
